PROJECT DETAILS
When BPGS Construction was hired to restore this 42,000 square foot, grand, historic theater on Market Street - they turned to Pinnacle to handle the scaffolding for the $24 Million renovation.PSC had to design an elaborate and intricate web of system scaffold for both the interior and exterior renovations.
The renovation will transform The Queen Theater from a broken down 92-year-old former movie house into a sparkling new performing arts venue called World Café Live, complete with a new music hall, diner, bar, and shops. The Queen theater will have have two new stages. The main stage, reserved almost exclusively for national acts, will seat about 400 people or hold 900 for standing room-only concerts. Upstairs, a smaller, 180-person stage for mostly local acts will be built overlooking Market Street.
Originally built as the Indian Queen Hotel in 1850 – it underwent a transformation into the Queen Theater in 1916. Its auditorium and balcony seated 2,000 people and was designed to offer a completely unobstructed view of the screen and stage. The lobby walls were decorated in Alaskan marble, the only such use of that material in the country. Above the large stage was a mural representing 'Science' and on either side of the walls above the balcony were six different paintings representing themes such as 'Music', 'Sculpture', and 'Beauty'. A Japanese garden formed the backdrop for the stage.
Thanks to PSC’s attention to detail, all of these works will be saved in the renovation.
